Rangers scored three first-half goals Saturday to beat Kilmarnock 3-0 in the Scottish Premier League. Rangers took the lead in the seventh minute when Kris Boyd ran onto Kevin Thomson's pass and slid the ball into the net. Kenny Miller grabbed Rangers' second in the 24th with a clinical finish after Lee McCulloch flicked the ball on.

It took a while for Rob Thomson to get home to Tampa to begin the shortest off-season he's had in 20 years in the New York Yankees' organization. If only every holiday were this brief. The onetime Stratford Hiller has gone from signaling for fastballs, curves and pitchouts behind the dish at National Stadium to keeping the Pinstripers circling the wagons in the Bronx, all the way home to their first World Series title in a decade.

Kevin Ball's Sunderland Under-18s rallied from a two-goal first-half deficit to draw 2-2 with Nottingham Forest in the battle of the top two in Group D of the FA Premier Academy League. A stunning 30-yard strike from Derek Riordan, his sixth goal of the season, wasn't enough to give Hibs their first win in Paisley in almost 11 years as Chris Innes hit back in injury time at the end of the first half to earn St Mirren a well-deserved point. Abood won the event in a time of 45.46, becoming the first Australian to break 46 seconds for the race, taking 0.6 off his previous mark, and 0.57 off the Commonwealth record held by South Africas Lyndon Ferns. Australian teammate Mitchell Patterson, 23, was third in 46.91. Having set new Australian records for the 50m and 100m freestyle in Berlin, Abood will be looking to continue his record-breaking run in the 50m freestyle on Sunday.

UPDATE: 11/11/09: The Los Angeles Times reports that the funeral for the King of Pop cost approximately $1 million. Court documents released on Tuesday reveal that his suit cost $35,000, security costs for the event ran to $30,000, invitations were $11,716, flowers were $16,000 and a funeral planner cost $15,000.
